Melodie Grace specializes in the ancient Japanese tradition of raku. A clean, controlled aesthetic contributes to the elegant style her work is known for.
Unlike other ceramics, raku works require a specific type of pit firing that allows smoke to seep into the pores of each vessel. The hand-drawn nature scenes of Melodie’s works are later revealed during a final removal of the cracked glaze. For her copper pieces, the flame interacts with a metallic glaze to produce unique color variations.
Melodie works out of her studio in Nashville. Her design collaborations include a signature collection for West Elm.
