Susan Church builds beautiful wooden Belvidere Boxes. These artful storage pieces invite a touch of their smoothed grain, or a lift of its lid. No matter the box, each is at once recognizable as crafted by hand. Most are fashioned from trees native to the South Cumberland.
Named after the Tennessee town Susan calls home, she sets each Belvidere Box corner with a contrast grain. When asked how she began working with wood, Susan said "It all started when Tom finally let me loose in the woodshop!” Tom Church, Susan’s late husband, was himself a beloved LOCALS artist and cherished friend, well known for exquisite wood furniture now found in homes across the world.
Many Belvidere Box lids also feature small bronze sculptures created by Jeanie Stephenson, Susan’s dear friend and fellow LOCALS artist.
