Beneath many layers of oil pastels, Hal first drew in pencil a neighborhood stable from his childhood. Prominent in this abstract are yellows and greys, but it is the red at its base that first draws attention. The attraction of this piece one might say lies in this very red. And this is just fine by Hal because red, of course, is his favorite color.
