Kate Gundersen specializes in the ancient art of paper-cutting. Using a small, sharp blade, she cuts layered paper into intricate designs that tell a story in silhouette.
When Kate puts her imagination to paper she does so to create one-dimensional scenes that you feel you can step right into. The intricacy of each papercut piece breathes movement and depth among sweeping linear perspectives. In these works wind rustles through dangling Wisteria vines, and weaves through blankets strung from a backyard clothesline. Working in her Cumberland Plateau studio, Kate also often finds inspiration in the forest views beyond her window.
