Nancy Wallace creates sculptural art in the functional form of journals. The carved and painted scenes that grace the front and back of Nancy’s books depict moments we often recognize – a hot summer night illuminated by the moon; or a beetle between blades of grass, hiding in plain sight. The journals’ intricate stitching and open spines means that even tucked into a bookshelf these one-of-a-kinds.
For other wooden journals Nancy engraves burn patterns into the grain. The scenes she creates include landscapes where vantage points are met between mountain and sky. She also binds books with leather provided by a nearby baseball mitt factory.
Nancy lives in Winchester, Tennessee. Her recent accolades include her featured journals in the 2018 Best of Tennessee Craft exhibit.
